Expedition doctor and author to discuss ‘Preparing for Your Expedition’ July 19

Terry M. Williams, MD, a retired emergency specialist and resident of Carlsbad will be giving a talk, “Preparing for Your Expedition,” at the Encinitas REI store in Leucadia on Friday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m.. He is a whitewater kayaker and climber with summits of Sierra 14ers, several of the Cascade volcanoes and two of the Seven Summits (Aconcagua and Kilimanjaro). He has served as expedition doctor on climbs, whitewater runs and in wilderness/primitive settings and has treated patients in many remote international locations. He recently published Adventure Expedition One, a book on how to plan and execute your first expedition with co-author and polar explorer Aaron Linsdau.
Williams will discuss the many issues you will need to consider when putting together your big adventure. Topics will include: how to get started, expedition ideas, expedition planning, (including planning for emergencies, contingencies and equipment failure), financing, physical training and preparation, essential skills, essential equipment, and expedition medical issues.
