The acclaimed Encinitas Oktoberfest returns for its 24th year this fall on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Oktoberfest originated as a royal nuptials celebration in the city of Munich, Germany back in 1810. Today, it’s celebrated worldwide. The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce has been the hosting and organizing Encinitas’ version since 1994 and has received acclaimed notoriety for capturing the authentic German spirit.

This family-friendly festival and market takes place along Mountain Vista Drive and El Camino Real and is expected to attract 20,000 people. A ceremonial parade will kick off the entertainment at noon. Following the parade, attendees enjoy performances by traditional Bavarian dancers and German musicians throughout the afternoon. Attendance is free.

This year’s market features around 200 vendors, including artisans with unique arts and crafts items, and a family food and refreshment tent serving authentic German food and beverages.

Event Manager, Sherry Yardley of Yardley Enterprises explains, “The family tent is a great place to relax and experience delicious German delicacies and refreshing German beverages while enjoying entertainment from amazing German performers. Attendees also can join in on the many games and of course the famous Chicken Dance.”

The rear of the venue will feature a 21+ Keepin’ It Local Craft Beer Garden with craft beers from Papa Marce’s Cerveceria, Saint Archer Brewing Company, Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Alpine Beer Company and Green Flash Brewing Co. along with food, music and games.

For the younger crowd, a family-fun zone with children’s games, rides, and family-oriented activities adds to the festivities.

“It’s a really fun day out for families,” said Chairman of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce Board, Alex Meade of Beacons Point, adding, “It draws quite a crowd and attendees tell us it’s one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in San Diego.”

Attendees are encouraged to dress in German attire. This free event offers free shuttle service from Flora Vista Elementary School’s parking lot off of Wandering Road to the festival.
