San Dieguito Academy to present ‘Every Brilliant Thing’

Theater for a Cause production runs March 5-7
Students of San Dieguito High School Academy will soon be performing Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe. Performances run March 5, 6, and 7 at 7 p.m. in the Clayton E. Liggett Theater on the SDA campus.
You’re 6 years old. Mom’s in the hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” She finds it hard to be happy. So you start to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything that’s worth living for. 1. Ice cream. 2. Water fights. 3. Staying up past your bedtime and being allowed to watch TV. 4. The color yellow. You leave it on her pillow. You know she’s read it because she’s corrected your spelling. Soon, the list will take on a life of its own. A play about depression and the lengths we will go to for those we love.
Every Brilliant Thing makes for a powerful Theater for a Cause production, an annual tradition at San Dieguito High School Academy in which all proceeds go to a related charitable organization. All donations and proceeds earned from Every Brilliant Thing will benefit SDA’s NAMI On Campus High School (NCHS) Club.
NCHS Clubs are student-led groups on high school campuses that raise mental health awareness and reduce stigma on campus through peer-led activities and education. Student leaders are empowered with tool kits, materials, templates and resources to make running the club a fun and educational process. The club is open to all students – those with mental health conditions, those with family members with a condition, or students who are interested in the field or in advocacy. The goal of NCHS Clubs is to end stigma by raising awareness that mental illness is not rare and should be treated like any other kind of medical condition. All shows will be performed at the Clayton E. Liggett Theater on the San Dieguito HS Academy campus, 800 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas, 92024. Tickets cost $8 for students and $15 for adults and are available for purchase at www.seatyourself.biz/sandieguito.
The house opens one half hour before each show, where tickets may also be purchased (if still available).
