Global Climate ShoeStrike event set for Sept. 25

Share

A Global Climate ShoeStrike event will take place Friday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. This protest action, inspired by Greta Thunberg’s School Strike movement, started in Sweden and has spread across the globe. A shoe strike allows people to stand for climate action without being in their shoes — a safe way to protest during the pandemic. Immediately following this event will be a shoe swap from 12 - 2 p.m., with masks and social distancing mandatory.

People are invited to join this protest to show support for the transformative changes society needs to make to slow climate change, and to express solidarity with this country’s most vulnerable and for climate refugees internationally.

Participants should drop off footwear at the Encinitas 4 Equality location: 414 Hwy 101 in Encinitas, between Sept. 15 and Sept. 23. Footwear tied in pairs and noted will not be swapped or donated. At noon, footwear with notes will be held for retrieval. Footwear without notes will be available for the shoe swap and OK to take until 2 p.m., after which, any unclaimed footwear will be donated to Encinitas Community Resource Center.

This Global Climate ShoeStrike is a collaborative endeavor by North County Climate Change Alliance and Encinitas4Equality. — News release
