In past years, the chapter raised and donated well over $100,000 to local communities through various philanthropic programs. This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, its revenue stream has been significantly reduced while community needs continue to increase. Local students are in need of school clothing and supplies, and a greater number of domestic abuse and assault survivors, both children and adults, are seeking treatment and counseling. The needs of the community never “shut down.”

Earlier this year, community merchants donated goods and services for a silent auction to be held at a spring fundraiser event. The items include jewelry, original art, golf clubs, a movie poster signed by Mel Gibson, Apple iPad, Sea World tickets, pet services and more.

Visit https://www.32auctions.com/ALRSDHoliday2020 to view items for sale. Winning bid transactions will be completed securely, in person, and items can be collected at a curbside pickup event. Or go to www.alrsd.org for a virtual “paddle raise” and directly donate.

Sales of these items will help support programs such as Operation School Bell and Assault Survivors Kits as well as Kuddles for Kids, which partners with local hospitals and resource centers to give their littlest clients a snack and huggable toy during scary times. ALRSD Scholarship program supports local high school seniors as they pursue future goals by continuing their education.

ALRSD raises funds through its Thrift Shop in Encinitas, fundraising events, individual and corporate donations, and community and government grants. Funds are returned to the community through philanthropic programs that serve children and adults. Membership is open to everyone. Visit www.alrsd.org.
