Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 777 Chairperson Rob Nowakowski and his wife Crystal visited the Encinitas Elks Lodge #2243 for a Thursday dinner Aug. 20. They also represented the troop to receive a $1,000 donation from the lodge. The troop has around 80 active scouts and focuses on “high adventure” outings, including camping, backpacking, canoeing, etc. During this COVID quarantine period, the troop has not been able to meet. However, it did hold a virtual camp. Scouts cooked and camped in their backyards and worked on merit badges and other activities while connecting online, including a virtual campfire each night. The troop has adapted their programs so scouts can meet online, camp and do other outings in family groups, and continue to build skills and work on their advancement.

The Encinitas Elks lodge sponsors BSA Troop 777 and Cub Scout Packs 797 and 731, serving youth mainly in Carlsbad and Encinitas. For information on joining either the troop or the packs, email the Elks Lodge scout coordinator: douglass.stinson@gmail.com.
