SDA Parents’ Night Out fundraiser

The San Dieguito High School Academy Boys’ Water Polo Team is holding its 5th annual Parents’ Night Out fundraiser Friday, Nov. 16, at the American Legion in Encinitas from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.The fundraiser is being sponsored in part by Jenny Scholl, a realtor with Coldwell Banker, who is covering the cost of the venue and the entertainment for the event. The evening will feature live music by The Saltlickers, a local band playing their own blues and rock tunes as well as covers. Food will be available to purchase from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. All adults, ages 21 and up, are welcome to attend this community event. Suggested donation at the door is $10. Olivenhain Arts & Crafts Fair

The popular annual Olivenhain Arts & Crafts Fair will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the historic Olivenhain Meeting Hall. The event features photography, pottery, body care products, quilts, plants, Holiday decorations and gifts, jams, jellies, jewelry and more. Yard Sale to benefit dog rescue group

A one-of-a-kind yard sale with more than 20 families will sell new and gently used goods — from designer to houseware to vintage items -- on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Encinitas on Wandering Road between Willowspring and Garden View. Proceeds will go toward Scratch My Belly, an all-breed dog rescue.

Lecture: The 1st Amendment vs. Hate Speech

Dilcie Perez, Dean of Student Life and Judicial Affairs, will speak about striking the balance in developing policies designed to regulate on-campus free speech, while keeping the student body safe on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. on the San Elijo Campus ofMiraCosta College, 3333 Manchester Avenue in the student conference room. Singer’s #KeepItWarm2018 tour coming to Belly Up

Singer-songwriter John Craigie will perform at the Belly Up, 143 South Cedros Avenue, in Solana Beach on Nov. 13. The stop will be part of his 19-date #KeepItWarm2018 tour and will support local organizations for the homeless. Exposure: A Women’s Benefit Event

The world’s largest women’s skateboarding event is returning to Encinitas for its seventh year on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Park, 425 Santa Fe Avenue. The event features 200 female skaters from 20 different countries skating invert, bowl and street events. Denise Mueller Korenek celebration

Inner Optimal, Inc. will host a celebration for Denise Mueller Korenek on Nov. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 2210 Encinitas Boulevard, suite L. Encinitas Book sale

Encinitas Friends of the Library Bookstore will hold a book sale Nov. 3. Most books will be from 25 cents to $1, with CDs for 25 cents and DVDs typically $1. Books range from current fiction, children’s selections, biography, self-help and spirituality to health, history, travel and science. Concert dedicated to ‘Peace, Hope and Remembrance’

The vocal ensemble Cappella Gloriana, conducted by Virginia Sublett, will present a concert dedicated to Peace, Hope and Remembrance on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 890 Balour Drive, Encinitas. Women of the Military’ topic at AAUW meeting

The public is invited by the Del Mar-Leucadia Branch of the American Association of University Women to a “Women of the Military” panel discussion at its Nov. 10 meeting, 10 a.m. to noon at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas.

Challenges and opportunities for women of the military, their issues of pay and treatment, and how civilians can support them will be addressed. Exposure: Women’s Skateboarding Event

On Nov. 3-4, the world’s top female skaters will return to Encinitas for the 7th annual Exposure event. With 150 skaters and a $50,000 prize purse, Exposure has become the world’s largest women’s skateboarding event. #BigFertility documentary

Jennifer Lahl, president of the Center for Bioethics and Culture (www.cbc-network.org), will appear at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Encinitas on Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. for a showing of her new documentary #BigFertility. Lahl is also the producer of the award-winning documentaries Eggsploitation (2013), Anonymous Father’s Day (2011), and Breeders: A Subclass of Women? (2014).

Lahl will also stay for Q & A after the film. Like “Big Tobacco” and “Big Pharma,” Big Fertility is what happens “when an industry intentionally disregards—and indeed attempts to distract from—the harm it inflicts on its customers in the pursuit of profit,” according to a press release.
