Man in a wig and dress robs Encinitas bank

A man brandishing a black handgun and wearing a wig and yellow dress robbed a U.S. Bank branch in Encinitas Saturday afternoon, Sept. 7, authorities said.

The robbery happened shortly after 1 p.m. at the branch on El Camino Real near Encinitas Boulevard. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash. He was described as Asian, approximately 65 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds, and wearing the yellow dress over blue jeans.

An extensive search of the area by helicopter and with canines failed to locate the robber, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
