Father shoots adult son following altercation at Encinitas home, sheriff’s officials say

The shooting was reported shortly before 5:45 a.m. at a home on Greenlake Drive near Evergreen Drive
A man allegedly shot his son Monday, Dec. 23, following an altercation inside an Encinitas home, authorities said.
The son, a man in his 50s, was threatening his mother with a knife when his father shot him, San Diego County sheriffs’s Lt. Michael Blevins said.
The shooting was reported shortly before 5:45 a.m. at a home on Greenlake Drive near Evergreen Drive, sheriff’s Lt. Nancy Blanco said. Deputies responded to the scene and found the son suffering from at least one gunshot wound..
The son remains hospitalized and in critical condition, Belvins said. The mother and father, both in their 70s, were uninjured.
The father is being questioned by detectives about the shooting and detectives are conducting an investigation.
