Community rallies to stop Asian hate
Hundreds participated in a student-led march to denounce racism and acts of violence against the Asian community in Carlsbad Village on March 21, joining demonstrations that happened all over the county and state in response to the tragedy on March 16 when a gunman killed eight people in Atlanta, including six Asian American women.
Hate-motivated incidents against those of Asian and Pacific Islander descent have spiked over the past year with some 3,800 incidents reported to the nonprofit Stop AAPI Hate.
The march was organized by local students Ara Lee and Joan Chong and began at the village with a march to Cannon Park where guest speakers could voice their experiences.
