BioPop features ‘Bioluminescent Carpet’ at Moonlight Beach to celebrate Earth Day

Share

San Diego-based BioPop, “the world’s largest producer of dinoflagellates,” hosted an Earth Day Celebration on April 22 at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas.

These dinoflagellates are living phytoplankton that rely on indirect light during the day and then glow a brilliant blue when gently agitated at night. Found in the ocean, this natural phenomenon and these organisms are showcased in BioPop’s flagship product, the Dino Pet. BioPop wanted people to experience the wonder of bioluminescence on Earth Day and featured a bioluminescent carpet at the event that lit up when walked on.

BioPop focuses on developing “living art” concepts that “fuel the imagination, provide new answers for the way we live and enrich our understanding of the relationship between nature, science and humanity. The company’s work can be seen in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and in homes and offices around the world.”
