After maintenance, dog park reopening
The Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park, which was closed more than three weeks for grounds maintenance, reopened May 22.
City crews worked to preserve the turf by inspecting and repairing irrigation. They also completed fencing repairs.
“I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised and get an understanding of these closures and how we can continue to provide an aesthetically pleasing and clean and odor-free dog park for all,” said Jason La Riva, parks and beach superintendent, at the May 19 Encinitas Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
La Riva said the city received “very little” negative feedback regarding the closure. He also stated the city expects a busy Memorial Day weekend at the dog park.
The 2-acre dog park is part of the 44-acre Encinitas Community Park, at 425 Santa Fe Drive.
