A bicyclist riding next to a triathlon was struck by a vehicle in Encinitas today and was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The bicyclist was struck around 10 a.m. while riding alongside participants in the Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge, nearManchester Avenue and Mira Costa College Road. But he was not a part of the race, according to sheriff’s Lt. Jim Walker.

None of the triathlon riders were injured. Walker said the driver stopped after the crash, but it was unclear if the motorist was cited.
