Battle of the Bands set for May 3 at Leucadia Music Fest

An eclectic array of Encinitas’ finest young musical talent will have the chance to battle it out for a coveted spot in the line-up of performers at Leucadia’s Music Festival.

The stage is set for the young musicians of Encinitas to compete for radical prizes and a spot at this year’s “Summer Fun on the 101”: Leucadia’s Music Festival. The battle will take place on the north side of Seaweed and Gravel (1144 N. Coast Highway 101) from noon-4 p.m. Sunday, May 3. This is a free event for all ages.

At last year’s battle, judges were blown away by the powerful vocals and right-on rhythms from “Don’t Tell Mom.” The fans couldn’t resist the power pop of “Triceratropical,” crowning them the People’s Choice out of seven groups competing.

“We can’t wait to see what new acts and veteran rockers come out for this year’s event,” said Micahel Schmitt, promotional chairman of Leucadia 101 Main Street Association.

Added Carris Rhodes, executive director of the association, “This event brings the whole community together to celebrate our young talent. We love fostering artists of all ages in Leucadia.”

Young musicians interested in entering should contact the Leucadia Main Street Association via e-mail (info@leucadia101.com and ruthlesshippies@gmail.com) no later than April 27. Space is limited and bands will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Each band will have 15 minutes to perform. Bring a beach chair and blanket to Seaweed and Gravel, turn off your phone for a few hours and revel in the performances. When you get hungry, just walk to one of the many fine local eateries on Highway 101.
