Encinitas Parks and Recreation director resigns

Encinitas Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Rudloff resigned last week for undisclosed reasons.

Rudloff was hired in 2011 and notably oversaw construction of the 44-acre Encinitas Community Park, a revamp of Moonlight Beach facilities and the ongoing Encinitas Parks, Beaches, Trails and Open Space Master Plan. In a voicemail, Mayor Kristin Gaspar praised Rudloff for heading those successful projects.

“We wish her luck in all her future endeavors,” Gaspar said. Gaspar added that reasons were not given to her for Rudloff’s resignation.

City Manager Karen Brust did not return a request for comment.

The parks department wasn’t without controversy during Rudloff’s tenure. In 2014, it came to light that the city previously approved a new clause that would let the Magdalena Ecke YMCA cancel a lease with 30 days’ notice. Encinitas Little League officials then feared the league could be displaced, but later reached a field compromise with the YMCA.

Jim O’Grady has been named interim director of the department. This is his second time in the role.
