Rhea Stewart, a 25-year resident of Cardiff, is joining the Encinitas Parks and Recreation Commission.

The Encinitas City Council appointed Stewart Nov. 18, after hearing from her and two other applicants. Stewart is taking the place of Michael Murray, who resigned due to the travel demands of a new job.

“I’m interested in serving on the parks and recreation commission to ensure that our city’s outdoor resources remain vital, as well as accessible to its residents,” Stewart told the council during candidate interviews.

She added that she’d collaborate with city staff to implement the Encinitas Parks Master Plan, a document outlining plans for parks, beaches and trails.

Stewart works in K-12 digital curriculum publishing, specializing in developing math courses.

She is also on a committee that oversees the San Dieguito Union High School District’s Proposition AA bond. Plus, Stewart serves as a board member on the San Dieguito Academy Foundation, which supports school programming.

Cardiff resident Wehtahnah Tucker and Encinitas resident Wyatt Barrett also applied.
