Encinitas finalizes purchase of Pacific View

Share

The city of Encinitas announced Dec. 19 it has closed escrow on its purchase of the Pacific View property, a 2.8-acre site in the heart of the city’s downtown.

In March 2014, the City offered $10 million to buy the property from Encinitas Union School District (EUSD), which was accepted. In October, City Council authorized the sale of $13 million in bonds to fund the purchase of the property and a new lifeguard tower at Moonlight Beach.

The City and EUSD have worked together in recent months to finalize the details and terms of the sale. In addition, the Encinitas City Council has formed a subcommittee to help develop an activation plan for the property, which will identify possible short-term and long-term uses.

More about the Pacific View property:

The Pacific View property is located at 608 Third Street in downtown Encinitas. It is home to an elementary school that has sat vacant since 2003—and a historic schoolhouse that dates back to the late 1800s. The historic schoolhouse will be preserved and remain on the property, per the conditions of the sale.
