Man killed after being hit by train in Leucadia
A Coaster train killed a man Aug. 12 near Leucadia Oaks Park.
The pedestrian, who was not immediately identified, was struck shortly after 12:20 p.m. on the train tracks in the 1500 block of North Coast Highway across from the park, authorities said.
Witnesses saw the man walk toward the railroad tracks as the train was approaching, according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department press release.
The train operator activated the horn and emergency braking system, but was unable to stop the train before it struck the man who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s Department was investigating the death.
The North County Transit District reported via Twitter that passengers would be taken from the Encinitas station to the Oceanside Transit Center via bus while the tracks were being inspected.
