Woman killed after being hit by train in Encinitas

A northbound Coaster train struck and killed a female pedestrian near Batiquitos Lagoon in Encinitas March 5.

Rail Enforcement deputies responded about 4:30 p.m. to the crash scene near the 1700 block of North Vulcan Avenue, said San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy A. Reeves.

“According to witnesses, as the train was approaching the location, the victim was observed walking towards the railroad tracks,” Reeves said. “The train operator activated its horn and emergency braking system, but was unable to stop before striking the victim.”

The female, whose name was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene, Reeves said.
